New super-pitches at family's Devon holiday park
Devon holiday park makes a pitch for on-the-move luxury travel lovers
The cool image of motorhomes is putting the heat on demand at a Devon holiday park where £200,000 has just been invested in new super-pitches.
Family-owned Cofton Holidays in Dawlish took the decision to create the 48 five-star pitches after holiday demand often outstripped supply this summer.
They will now be available year-round for guests arriving in touring caravans and motorhomes, including the increasingly popular and larger RVs (recreational vehicles).
The chic image of motorhomes, believe manufacturers, is being buoyed up by their association with music festivals, film sets, and the spirit of laid-back living.
There are now 74 super-pitches for motorhomes and touring caravans at Cofton Holidays which is located close to Dawlish Warren's Blue Flag beach.
Park director Helen Scott said that bookings this year were up by 20% on 2019 figures, creating an all-time occupancy level in Cofton Holidays' 40-year history:
"We've known for a long time that demand for high-quality hard-standing pitches was on the rise, and so we decided to go all-out to cater for this market.
"Feedback on our new super-pitches has been fantastic, not least because the brick paver and gravel combination makes it much easier to set up an awning and outdoor furniture.
"At the same time, we also made additional nature-friendly initiatives by rewilding large swathes of the park, creating new wildlife habitats and enhancing biodiversity," said Helen.
Earlier this year, the park scooped the top spot in the caravan and campsite category of this summer's iTravel Staycation Awards 2021 organised by national newspaper iNews.
The park was congratulated by BBC Countryfile presenter Sean Fletcher when he announced its triumph in the newspaper's virtual award ceremony.
Facilities at the park include a heated indoor pool and hydrotherapy loungers, a gym, steam room, sauna, fitness studio, restaurant, pub, play areas, sports wall and outdoor pools.
Guests also have access to five coarse fishing lakes, and miles of cycle paths and nature trails that take visitors through woodland to the golden sands of Dawlish Warren beach and nature reserve.
Cofton Holidays provides luxury lodges with hot tubs, holiday apartments in a Georgian manor house, country cottages, on-site cottages and a range of holiday homes.
Cofton holds VisitEngland’s highest standard for quality, the prestigious 5-star holiday park rating, and is a previous winner of Holiday Park of the Year at the South West Tourism Excellence Awards.
