Updated restrictions for travel to Portugal what do I need to know?

A travel update from Visit Portugal

In order to protect our population and those who visit us on holiday, Portugal has put in place extra measures to reduce the risk from Covid-19 infection, starting on the 1st December 2021, until the 9th January 2022.

Portugal has one of the highest vaccination rates in the world and the adoption of these measures have the purpose of avoiding future and more severe measures. These measures are temporary and evaluated at regular intervals.

TRAVELLING TO MAINLAND PORTUGAL

Before departure

Complete the free Online Passenger Locator Card

From the age of 12 years, all passengers are required to show a negative covid test before departure:

PCR / NAAT test within 72 hours. A negative SARSCoV-2 lab result of a nucleic acid amplification test (NAAT), for example a PCR test, performed at least 72 hours before boarding, or
Antigen / TRAg test within 48 hours. A rapid antigen test (TRAg), performed within 48 hours of boarding or

A valid recovery certificate (under 180 days from the recovery date)

NHS Covid Pass or
RT-PCR Test - 72h before boarding or
Antigen / TRAg test within 48 hours or
Declaration of Immunity (for those who already had COVID-19, for example) or
Passengers may perform free test on arrival and await the result in prophylactic isolation (results are available between 12 to 24 hrs)
Perform voluntary isolation, for a period of 10 days, at home or in a hotel accommodation

Exceptions: Children under 12yo

What to expect in Portugal

From December 1st

Mandatory use of mask in closed spaces
General recommendation for regular testing

Mandatory proof of vaccination proving fully vaccination (NHS Covid Pass) or a negative test when accessing:

Restaurants (indoors)
Hotels and local accommodation (Villas and apartments)
Events with reserved seats

Mandatory negative test (even for vaccinated) when accessing:

Large events without reserved seats or in improvised venues and sports venues
Night Clubs/Discos and Bars

Between the 2nd and 9th January

Closing of bars and night clubs

In tourism, the “Clean & Safe” seal was implemented allowing tourists to have increased security and confidence in the use of accommodation establishments, in the various tourist services and tourist attractions.
