Coppa Club Putney review foodie travel in London

Coppa Club Putney - A Festive Holiday Hotspot

Festive Foodie Travel's in the Capital

We were lucky enough to be invited to check out the new Coppa Club in Putney a couple of weeks ago.

Coppa Club Putney only opened its doors on 2nd November this year and is described as a café, bar, restaurant, lounge, terrace and private dining space. This is Coppa Club’s second London opening and the ninth Coppa Club following the successful openings in Clifton Village and Cobham earlier this year. Situated on the riverfront and serving breakfast, brunch, intimate dinners, after-work drinks and daily caffeine fixes, Coppa Club Putney offers a welcoming riverside retreat for locals and guests alike to enjoy from morning to night.

We left our hotel in the West End and from Embankment station we were in Putney in just over 20 minutes.

A short walk across the Bridge along the Thames footpath brought us to Coppa Club. It has an outdoor dining area overlooking the river, and while it had exterior heaters and a couple of funky looking igloo's we decided to eat lunch inside. Bookings in an igloo also have access to an exclusive igloo menu, with specials including the truffled wagyu burger and a  warm chocolate fondant with caramelised white chocolate and salted caramel ice cream. One to try for next time!

First impressions were very good, everything was new and fresh and the layout warm and inviting and split into 3 distinct areas.

Coppa Club Putney has partnered with Grind, a renowned and sustainable coffee brand, from the amount of people we saw beavering away on laptops and drinking coffee in the library / snug area we would say this was a good move!

The staff were very pleasant and attentive and the service was extremely efficient and quick, maybe a little too quick! We asked for a break between main course and dessert, we're not used to eating big meals at lunchtime!

We were quickly given a large bottle of tap water which we thought was a nice touch while we had a look at the fairly extensive menu which is a modern take on British and Mediterranean classics. The menu offers a range of nibbles, small plates and sharing meals. Mains and grills included fish, prawns and meats, but also pasta, pizzas and salad options with a selection of sides.

There is a children’s menu on a separate sheet which incorporates fun games, colouring and puzzles to keep the little ones entertained plus of course a decent menu to accommodate even the fussiest child. Although we didn't have children with us on this occasion, Coppa Club Putney is extremely child friendly and we would have felt comfortable bringing children.

For our starters we went for the buttermilk fried chicken with chilli mayo and crunchy slaw, the chilli mayo definitely had a little bite with it! We also had the vegetarian option of Burrata with roasted baby beets, candied walnuts with extra virgin oil. Both arrived quickly and were excellent. Our favourite was the burrata which left us discussing how difficult it seems it is to buy Burrata locally to us.

Moving on to the main course, being from Devon we went for the Devon Crab Salad with avocado, baby gem, lemon and parsley. Again came fairly quickly and was excellent. A little controversial here but...the avocado was mashed and we would have preferred it sliced! The crab dressing on the baby gem was very nice.

The other main course we went for was the British Flash Steak which was an 8oz flat iron. It was delicious and perfectly cooked pink. This should have come with fries but we upgraded to the truffle fries, and you could genuinely taste the truffle with a chimichurri which was very tasty.

After asking for a 10 minute break we managed to squeeze in desserts (for review purposes only obviously!)  We had the Apple and Pear Crumble which should come with Birds Custard but we confused the issue by asking for ice cream as well but ended up losing the custard! Not a problem as it was all very good and a very large portion!

The other dessert we chose was the Warm Pecan Pie with ice cream, which again was a large slice and very tasty but we did ask for a fork to cut through the nuts and pastry.

Dessert Coppa Club Putney foodie travel in London We washed it all, down with a very nice bottle of Piemonte Sauvignon Blanc from Italy which was very pleasant indeed. What a way to spend a Monday lunchtime!

All in all we had an extremely pleasant experience. Prices were competitive and good value.  A really nice meal in very relaxed and comfortable surroundings, and well worth going back again.
