Where to stay in Leicester
The Gresham Aparthotel is located in one of Leicester's most iconic Grade II Listed buildings. The 121 bed aparthotel which also has a restaurant and bar, gym, conference facilities, commercial units, and co working spaces opened in November 2021 following a £17 million refurbishment.
The building was designed by local architect Isaac Barradale back in the 1800's and would be most recently remembered by locals as Fenwick's Department Store.
Situated on the corner of Market Street and Belvoir Street, The Gresham is located in the heart of Leicester making it the perfect base for a city break. The aparthotel has the vibe of a luxury boutique hotel whilst also allowing guests the flexibility of serviced apartment living.
We stayed in one of the Deluxe Studios. Rooms are open plan and equipped with a kitchenette providing everything you need for a couple of days. There is also a table and chairs to enjoy your food and a sofa for putting your feet up after a day of shopping or sight seeing.
The rooms are stylish, bright and airy and the extra space available a nice welcome.
There are a range of different apartments available to suit all needs including a luxury sky apartment which has a terrace offering stunning views of the city . 2 bedroom apartments are also available making this a great option for families. With attractions like the National Space Centre and Ninja Warrior UK nearby, The Gresham Aparthotel makes family city breaks seem doable! Downstairs there is a fully equipped gym, excellent conference facilities and co working spaces with meeting rooms to hire.
Where to eat in Leicester
The Black Iron Social, an 80 seater restaurant and bar is also located on the ground floor.
The venue is warm with a good mix of classic and modern design with lots of added greenery from potted plants.
The venue is open to the public as well as guests of the Gresham and due to its great location would make a good spot for an after work drink or cocktails with friends.
The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. The food is described as being 'Inspired by the fantastic ingredients sourced from local suppliers, our food is elevated by traditional and modern cooking techniques. Using classical and further afield flavour combinations, you can expect an interesting and diverse menu that caters for all.'
The evening menu is fun and offers smaller plates ideal for sharing as well as main meals or large plates. There is a wide range of food available and lots of vegetarian and vegan options too. Sharers include salt and pepper squid, watermelon tartare and crispy ox cheek. Large plates include herb crusted hake, miso glazed aubergine and fillet steak. Or you can really push the boat out and go for the butter roasted chateaubriand, which we can confirm is delicious!

The desert menu is a modern twist on the classics and includes a white chocolate dome and roasted pineapple with lime jelly, mango cream and citrus sherbert, something for every sweet tooth.
The Grade II Listed Victorian building has been lovingly restored to a very high standard and The Gresham Aparthotel provides a practical yet luxurious base to explore all that Leicester has to offer.
