A new uplifting travel memoir called Travels with Maridadi: Harley-Davidson Adventures in Saudi Arabia by Bizzie Frost, is due to be released on 28th March 2023.
After a botched spinal operation left her partially paralysed aged forty-five, Bizzie Frost found herself unable to enjoy the active and invigorating lifestyle she loved in Saudi Arabia. That was until six years later when her husband proposed they buy a Harley-Davidson. An invitation to join friends on a 2,500km ride to Oman was irresistible and they bought their Road King – Maridadi.

Travels with Maridadi is an epic account of adventures on a Harley-Davidson in Saudi Arabia, a country rarely visited by outsiders during the thirty years that Bizzie called it home. Riding pillion with her airline captain husband, Frosty, she travelled thousands of kilometres across the deserts and mountains of the Kingdom, as well as other Middle Eastern countries. Her stories and photographs breathe life into the scenery, people and culture of the Kingdom, and convey the freedom and healing power of motorcycling on the open road.

Kenya-born Bizzie Frost moved to Saudi Arabia with her family in the 1980s. With adventure in her blood, she’s travelled extensively and worked as a journalist and photographer for over thirty years. At forty-five, a spinal operation left her partially paralysed, but a Harley-Davidson fulfilled her cravings for excitement and the open road.
Bizzie says, “Saudi Arabia is still full of mystery to the outside world and the publicity it gets in the media is rarely complimentary. Unlike many books about the country which are serious studies of Islam, politics, oil, terrorism or the position of women behind the veil, I wanted to share a more balanced and personal perspective that came from many years of living in Jeddah and our extensive travels around the Kingdom. We went to areas that very few foreigners (including journalists) or Saudis have ever seen. During these travels, I experienced the cool of the mountains, torrential rain that flooded the roads, the searing heat of the deserts and sandstorms that engulfed us in their gritty, yellow fog, the generosity and kindness of the locals, and the diligence and sometimes officiousness of the authorities.”
