UK holidaymakers urged to ‘give while they book’ with £1.2 million being raised for good causes
More UK holidaymakers urged to ‘give while they book’ with £1.2 million being raised for their favourite good causes in past year
UK holidaymakers are being urged to 'give while they book' and use a clever way of booking that has seen £1million go to good causes through UK holidays and travel in the past year alone – and which costs you nothing.
In the last 12 months since January 2022 the giving platform has seen £1.2 million donated to causes from travel bookings alone – showing the massive impact holiday goers can have.
And in January, easyfundraising has seen a huge increase in the number of donations that have been raised through travel purchases – up by a massive 90% year-on-year. Compared to 2022 this is a huge rise in travel spending via the giving platform for the month as more people find out about this clever way of giving to charity.
With household budgets tight – and with the recent announcement on the closure of AmazonSmile - this is a great way to give to your nominated cause or charity that doesn't cost you anything at all. Signing up to easyfundraising means your favourite brands donate to the cause you care about whenever you shop with them.
easyfundraising work with well-known retailers and booking sites so that they donate a percentage of their customers' online purchases to causes their customer supports. For instance, TUI are one of their biggest package holiday retailers and has generated £35k in donations from last month alone.
Some of easyfundraising's travel partners are offering amazing donations for the start of the year. Booking.com are giving a 4% donation for any purchase made through them, so whatever is spent on a holiday, 4% of that will donated to the cause of choice by the travel company. So, a £1,500 summer break could result in a hefty £60 donation to charity!
There are over 7000 brands spanning from travel companies like Thomas Cook to fashion retailers like John Lewis that give back when you spend. It doesn't cost anything extra on the price of the holiday or booking as the cost is covered by the brand.
James Moir, CEO of easyfundraising, says: "We are urging people to 'give while they book'. Booking a holiday or travel is good fun anyway – but it's even better when you know your favourite good cause is benefiting at the same time at no cost to you. So far, in total we have raised over £44 million for the causes we support since 2015.
"With 180,000 charities and good causes benefitting from easyfundraising, we know how important each donation is whether it's big or small.
"We've had the highest donation rates ever in the last five years, meaning even more for your causes. We want to continue to increase that number this year through holiday purchases and more bookers knowing about this easy way to give."
