Four must-do activities in Alicante
With summer sunshine, buzzing holiday resorts, and rich history, Alicante is one of the most enjoyable Spanish regions you can visit. Yet if you want to make the most of your trip, it pays to make a short list of the activities that will make your holiday one to remember.
In this article, we’ll share four unmissable activities for your holiday to Alicante...
Visit the Castle of Santa Barbara
Originally built by the medieval Arabs, Santa Barbara Castle sits at the top of Benacantil mountain giving great views over Alicante.

Start your journey on foot early in the morning before the sun is at its fiercest. Alternatively, take the lift from behind Postiguet Beach. Whichever way of getting there you prefer, you won’t regret the journey once you see the incredible view from the ancient battlements.
Take a boat trip to Tabarca Island

Even though it’s located just a few kilometres south of Alicante, Tabarca Island feels like a completely different world. Hosting a small, walled community of whitewashed houses, you’ll be surprised to see how well the people living here get on without modern conveniences.
Experience the Contemporary Art Museum
Founded in 1976, this modern art attraction is home to more than 800 works from celebrated artists such as Picasso, Francis Bacon, Salvador Dalí, and Joan Miró. Each time you visit the museum, you’ll experience something slightly different. This is because the displays are rotated throughout the year, with only on-third of the works on display at any time.

Interestingly, this museum is itself a relic. The museum is Alicante’s oldest secular building – a former granary constructed in 1687 next to the Santa Maria Basilica.
Discover Guadalest Valley
This historic castle-town sits at the pinnacle of a mountain, giving brilliant views of the surrounding area. To access it, you walk through a tunnel carved out of pure rock – a marvel in its own right. And once you’ve passed through it, you’ll see the cobbled streets, quaint squares, and carefully restored homes that make a trip to Guadalest like stepping into a time machine.

Yet truthfully, it’s the surrounding valley that Guadalest is so well-known for. The lush mountainous greenery and turquoise waters of the lakes will leave you mesmerised, regardless the time of year when you visit.
After you’ve ticked a trip to Guadalest off your Alicante to-do list, it’ll be easy for you to understand why it’s one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Costa Blanca
Pre-arrange transportation
With so many amazing things to see and do in Alicante, it’s easy to focus on the activities themselves and forget about how you’ll travel between them.
Whether it’s for an excursion to a local attraction or a transfer from Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport, you’ll be grateful you remembered to arrange quality transportation ahead of time.
