Free Airline Cabin Bags: Review of Cabin Max Manhattan
Cabin Max Manhattan 20 litre - Ryanair Approved Cabin Bag Review
With flight costs increasing*, the last thing anyone wants to do is pay extra for a carry on bag or checked luggage when travelling.
The varying size limits of the different airlines further muddies the waters and you are at risk of owning several different pieces of luggage depending on who you are flying with for that particular trip. Or, in my case, using a much smaller bag than necessary for all flights in an effort to stay within the general sizing requirements.
After scouring the internet to solve the problem Cabin Max appeared. I immediately loved the clear layout of the website and ability to shop by airline! Revolutionary!
We regularly fly Ryanair and Easyjet through our regional airport but both of their free small backpacks are different sizes. I was forever trying to cram everything for a weekend away into my small backpack or paying extra for a 10kg pull along case which was only half full. Luggage at times cost more than the flights!
After filtering my search by airline on the Cabin Max website, in this case Ryanair, I was able to view all of the bags that fit within the Ryanair sizing requirements.
The bag I went for was the Manhattan 20 litre backpack in lavendar. The main colour is grey but you can choose which colour trim you like from yellow, red, bronze or go for a black block colour bag.
The bag was 40x25x20cm which fits exactly within the Ryanair bag sizing and allows you to store the bag in the overhead locker or under the seat in front.
When the backpack arrived a couple of days later I couldn't believe it fit within the sizing requirements. It was so much bigger than the backpack I had been using.
Here are some of the Cabin Max Manhattan specifications:
- You are able to wear as a backpack or shoulder bag. The straps are wide and padded for comfort and the bag is extremely lightweight.
- Padded rear device pocket (400 x 250mm) - perfect for small laptops or ipads.
- The whole of the main interior section unzips so that you can pack as if you were packing a small suitcase. You could also use packing cubes here if you are a fan.
- UV-coated twill & Eco-suede construction. Rear luggage pass-through to combine easily with rolling luggage
- Top carry handle, lockable zips & front quick-stash ticket pocket
This bag has a capacity of 20 litres which really allows you to pack a lot of items. I managed clothes for a weekend, a pair of sandals, my laptop and some small toiletries. I love the fact that you are using every cm of your maximum allowance! There is also a mesh water bottle holder on the side.
One big selling point here is the price. This bag is £36.95 - which seems really good value for the size and quality of bag.
All Cabin Max bags are also protected by a 3 year manufacturing warranty. You can also purchase bigger roll on suitcases and hold luggage as well as packing cubes.

Note: Cabin Max did send us this product for review purposes. As usual though, we regain full editorial control and if we didn't love it, we wouldn't being telling you about it. We actually purchased another identical bag following this trip!
