Now, this one may sound strange but the Derwent Pencil Museum is so popular with visitors to the area. Yes, that’s right, Keswick, home to natural beauty and scenery was also home to the first ever pencil! The Pencil Museum is only a short walk from the town centre, located close to the old pencil factory. Described as ‘a journey of pencil and graphite discovery’, you will learn all about the history of pencil making, as well as how graphite was first discovered hundreds of years ago.
Keswick to Rosthwaite walk
Avid walkers will enjoy the wide range of walks and hikes available across the area. One popular route is the Keswick to Rosthwaite walk that covers a span of 7.5 miles. This walk allows you to take in several sights including Ashness Bridge, Walla Crag, and Surprise View, with incredible views over the beautiful Derwentwater.
Taking around 4 hours to complete, this is a route popular with active tourists seeking adventurous activities for their days in the Lake District. This is a moderately challenging route, making it best suited to couples and groups of adults. However, there are many other walking routes that are family friendly and great for children, including Catbells and Friars Cragg.
