Three Brand New Hiking Experiences in Shizuoka and New Online Registration for Climbing Mt. Fuji Launched

Three new hiking experiences have launched in Shizuoka exploring the Japanese prefecture’s majestic landscapes, whilst the Shizuoka Prefectural Government has launched a new registration system and e-learning course for those wanting to scale Mt. Fuji aimed at protecting and preserving the region’s legendary mountain while improving climb safety and comfort.

The new experiences from local tour company FUJI SUNRISE include the five-hour Fuji Sunrise Hike Private Tour which begins in Shizuoka’s Mizugatsuka area at an altitude of 1400m. The guided off-season hike, available from September to April, journeys to the peak of Futatsuzuka - twin parasitic volcanoes on Mt. Fuji - and invites guests to trek through deep, silent forests under starlight before reaching the summit after sunrise. The newly launched East Fuji Nature Hike Private Tour, available year-round, is also five hours long and explores the beautiful nature and landscapes of Mt. Fuij’s eastern foothills. The tour invites guests to discover Shizuoka’s volcanic landscapes that contrast against dense and luscious forests.

For adventure enthusiasts, the new Mt. Fuji 2-Day Climb Private Tour offers an overnight experience which culminates in reaching the top of Mt.Fuji at sunrise on day two of the hike. The tour takes the Fujinomiya Route up the mountain, which is the shortest of the four existing routes to ascend and is available during the official Mt. Fuji climbing season from July to September.

All of FUJI SUNRISE’s tours offer an expert English-speaking guide and prices start from 38,000 JPY per group for the East Fuji Nature Hike Private Tour, 44,000 JPY per group for the Fuji Sunrise Hike Private Tour and 110,000 JPY per group for the Mt. Fuji 2-Day Climb Private Tour. Groups can be up to seven people per guide. 

The new "Shizuoka Prefecture Mt. Fuji Climbing Pre-Registration System" has also been recently launched by the Shizuoka Prefectural Government, in a bid to help protect the mountain and ensure safe and comfortable climbing conditions for all. Visitors ascending via any of Shizuoka’s three routes: Fujinomiya, Gotemba and Subashiri, are now required to complete the new online registration form ahead of their hike, which includes an e-learning course on mountain safety and etiquette. A QR code is received upon completion which must be presented at the mountain’s checkpoints. Registration is free, but climbers are encouraged to donate 1,000 JPY per person which goes towards the preservation of the mountain.  More information can be found here.
