Revealed: Prague is 2022’s Best Budget Summer Holiday Destination

DiscoverCars.com wanted to find out the best budget summer getaway destinations around the world for 2022. They did this by exploring factors such as the average cost of a flight and the number of affordable restaurants and budget hotels the destination has. 

Once they found this information, they ranked the destinations accordingly. The top 5 were:

1. Prague, Czech Republic

Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, placed first and scored 53 out of 70 points. The city is full of attractions such as Charles Bridge, Letná Park, and Rudolfinum Gallery.

The average cost of a flight from Heathrow is £153, and the cost of accommodation for a week is £1,173. Additionally, there are 1,201 affordable restaurants and 442 budget hotels.

2. Rome, Italy

Rome, situated in the region of Lazio, scored 50 out of 70 points and therefore placed second. Rome has a never-ending range of archaeological treasures, such as the Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps, and the Colosseum.

The city’s most popular attraction is the Pantheon and its closest airport is Rome Ciampino (CIA). Rome has 2,951 affordable restaurants, 797 budget hotels, and 5,920 attractions.

3. Istanbul, Turkey

Istanbul, which is a major city in Istanbul and located on the Bosphorus Strait, ranked third and scored 46 out of 70 points.

The average cost of accommodation for a week in Istanbul is £1,363, and the average cost of renting a car is £219. The city’s most popular attraction is the Dolmabahce Palace and the average cost to visit is £6.43.

4. Ljubljana, Slovenia

Looking for a budget summer city break holiday Ljubljana travel Ranking fourth is Ljubljana, which is both the capital and the largest city of Slovenia and scored 38 out of 70 points. There is a lot to do in Ljubljana, such as visiting the Prešeren Square and the National Museum of Slovenia.

The city’s closest airport is Ljubljana Airport (LJU) and its most popular attraction is the Ljubljana Old Town. Ljubljana has 147 affordable restaurants, 31 budget hotels, and 679 attractions.

5. Plovdiv, Bulgaria 

In fifth place is Plovdiv in Bulgaria, which is located in the country's south and scored 37 out of 70 points. Some of the best things to do here are visiting the Plovdiv Roman Stadium and the Regional Ethnographic Museum.

The most popular attraction in this city is the Plovdiv Old Town, which costs nothing to visit. The average cost of a flight is £188 and the average cost of accommodation for a week is £364.
