Bastion of Alpine hospitality, Badrutt’s Palace, welcomes back holiday guests with new summer experiences for enthusiasts of nature, wine and mountain exploration
This summer, Badrutt’s Palace – right in the heart of St. Moritz – is opening its doors to luxury travel lovers of nature, wine, and mountain exploration in the fresh air and freedom of the Engadin Valley. With recent research from Destination Analysts demonstrating that nearly a third of those travelling in 2021 plan to visit outdoor-oriented holiday destinations where social distancing is built into the experience, a spoiling summer escape to Badrutt’s Palace will ensure guests reap the benefits of being in the mountains and re-connecting with loved ones in peaceful privacy.
Nurtured in nature
The “nurtured in nature” experience will see guests clear their minds and enhance their fitness as they hike, bike and sail through a series of outdoor mountain pursuits, alongside balancing wellness experiences such as forest bathing in nearby Lake Lej de Staz. The perfect antidote to post-lockdown fog, the energising programme will also serve nourishing meals using fresh alpine ingredients at La Diala or can be packed up for a picnic by Lake St. Moritz. To relieve aching muscles and soothe the soul, guests can indulge in a relaxation massage at Palace Wellness.
Grape escape
Switzerland is known for its cheese and chocolate, but it also has spectacular vineyards which guests will be able to uncover with the Badrutt’s Palace head-sommelier, Daniel Kis. On the first day of the new “grape escape” experience, guests will depart by helicopter and soar over the rugged Alpine range to a wine-growing region called Bündner Herrschaft in the northern most corner of Graubünden. Known as the home of Heidi the children’s book character, the region produces over 50 types of wine. Guests will explore the local vineyards and wineries with a private guide, before enjoying a wine tasting and pairing.
The next day, guests will be driven an hour and a half along the beautiful Bernina Pass to Valtellina in northern Italy. The region is best known for its cherry-scented bottles that come from the Nebbiolo grape. Guests will explore the winery and indulge in a picnic spread of local produce paired with homegrown wine. Back at the Palace, guests can explore the distinguished wine cellar with more than 30,000 bottles of champagne and wines from all over the world and have a sip or two in the cosy ‘Krug Stübli’ chalet.
Automotive alpine adventure
From lush forests to alpine peaks, turquoise lakes and storybook towns, St. Moritz is the perfect starting point for a summer road trip. Guests of Badrutt’s Palace can hire a Land Rover Defender with e-bikes and a picnic lunch packed for two to take to the winding alpine roads for special scenic discovery. Recommended stop offs include the Morteratsch Glacier (the largest glacier in the eastern Alps) followed by brunch at the nearby dairy factory and an energising walk along the Morteratsch towards the Bernina Pass. Wild swimmers will love the crystal clear, glacier water pools along the driving route. Guests will also have the option to be accompanied by a local photographer who will capture memories along the way.
