Whether spending time on home soil or traveling aboard as holiday restrictions lift, a trip to a botanical garden is a wonderful way to spend some time away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Online gambling experts CasinoScores analysed which of the world's botanical gardens are the most Instagram-worthy by looking at the number of times they had been hashtagged on the photo-sharing app.

The top spot is taken by Singapore's Gardens by the Bay, a huge futuristic, colourful national garden on the water. It's known for its towering Supertree structures, enabling visitors to skywalk over the gardens and the giant seashell-shaped greenhouses. Spanning the size of 100 rugby fields, it has an impressive 1,158,713 mentions on Instagram, making it the clear winner.

In position two is the famous Kew Gardens in London. At 300 acres in size, it's known for housing the world's largest collection of living plants, for which it has been named a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It has 662,809 mentions on Instagram, putting it firmly in second place of the most Instagrammable gardens in the world.

Taking spot three is Keukenhof in the Netherlands, with 593,756 mentions on Instagram. Keukenhof is known as the Garden of Europe as it spans 32 hectares on which seven million flower bulbs are planted annually. One of the world's largest flower gardens, the tulips are particularly breath-taking and feature in many photographs on Instagram.

The world’s fourth most Instagrammable garden is in South America - Jardim Botanico in Rio de Janeiro with 425,244 mentions on Instagram. Marmosets, toucans, and Amazonian water lilies populate the 137 hectares of this tropical paradise making for swoon-worthy snaps.

Rounding out the top five of most Instagrammable gardens is the North American Longwood Gardens in Pennsylvania. It is known for its elaborate horticultural displays, its fountain shows, and picture-perfect woodlands and meadows stretching across 1000 acres.

Jardin Majorelle in Marrakech is the destination of spot six on the list of most Instagrammable Gardens, with 219,615 mentions on the app. The North African 2.5-acre botanical garden and artist's landscape garden was conceived by French artist Jacques Majorelle over almost 40 years. The colour "Majorelle Blue" was invented by the artist, which he used on the garden walls, fountains, and features, as well as the cubist-designed villa. The marble pools, bamboo groves, banana trees, and coconut palms make it worthy of its position on the list.

In position seven is The Eden Project in Cornwall with 218,048, just behind Jardin Majorelle. Eden can be found inside a crater the size of 30 football pitches, where tropical biomes house the world's largest rainforest in captivity. The exotic plant life, state-of-the-art architecture, sculpture, and art make this sustainable haven any Instagrammer’s dream.

Claiming position eight is The Summer Palace in China. Despite Instagram being banned in the country, the botanical gardens have racked up 200,465 mentions on the app. It is an ensemble of gardens, lakes, and palaces that spans 297 hectares of unspoiled beauty.

The final two positions go to Villa d'Este in Italy and Kirstenbosch Gardens in South Africa. The former has 171,361 Instagram mentions thanks to its location on Lake Como, which holds the unofficial title of "most romantic lake in the world." The gardens of Villa d'Este span 4.5 hectares. The latter has earned 146,345 mentions on the app as a result of being situated at the slopes of the iconic Table Mountain. Kirstenbosch Gardens stretches for 528 hectares, the largest garden in the top ten.

Commenting on the study, a spokesperson for CasinoScores said: "As social media continues to boom, the "Instagrammability" of the destinations has become a deciding factor in the places we choose to visit. All these gardens have a unique beauty and are deserving of their place on the list."
