Overnight increase in package holiday searches for green list additions following latest announcement
25th June - Travel Supermarket have been analysing the data following the Governments latest travel update.
According to stats, Malta jumped from 17th to 5th most searched for package holiday destination following the announcement.
Barbados went from 12th to 2nd most searched.
24th June vs 23rd June: even though the announcement was made late in the day, we’ve still seen uptick in package holiday price comparison searches:
+1047% Barbados
+837% Malta
+133% Portugal (and Madeira)
+183% Spain
Clearly, these % increases need to be placed in the context of general supressed travel demand at the moment due to restrictions. But, still, it shows an immediate interest in getting away to the new green list destinations with low coronavirus rates and high vaccination rates.
Most searched locations
Drilling down a bit beyond country level, these are the most searched locations since the new green list additions’ announcement:
- Barbados
- Majorca
- Ibiza
- Malta
- Menorca
Most searched package holidays
In order of most package holiday price comparison search/share of search:
Spain - 38% of all search
Barbados - 13% share of search – which is unusally high
Greece 5% - This shows there is still interest to visit Greece, despite it remaining on the amber list.
US – 5%
Malta – 5% it is rare to see Malta in the top 5.
