So, there we were, on the coast, in our swimwear, in the middle of February, with the temperature barely nudging four degrees.

A brisk north-easterly wind was whipping up the waves, dog walkers were braving the elements bundled up like arctic explorers… and we were sweating. Properly sweating.

Why? Because we were in the middle of a blissful, hour-long session in a wood-fired sauna just a pebble’s throw from the beach.

Welcome to Seaside Sauna Haus in Seatown, a charming little hamlet on the Jurassic Coast in Dorset.

It’s the brainchild of former social worker Sarah Higgins, who left the 9-to-5 life behind to realise her business dream.

The sauna itself looks like something straight out of Scandinavia…think a cozy wooden cabin on wheels, heated to a toasty 70°C.

Inside there is room for up to six people and, through the steam, a perfectly placed window enables you to gaze out at the shivering world, a surreal contrast as you sit toasty and carefree in nothing but your trunks or bikini.

Outside, you’ll find cool water buckets for splashing yourself down, benches and upturned boats for lounging, and even slip-on beach shoes for that brisk dash to the sea.

After your sauna session (and optional plunge into the bracing sea), head straight to the Anchor Inn.

This award-winning pub sits right above the beach and is famous for its fresh local seafood

Order a plate of something delicious, soak up the sunshine (when it makes an appearance), and take in the stunning views of Golden Cap, towering in the distance.

Why saunas are actually magic

Saunas aren’t just about feeling warm and smug—they’re loaded with health benefits, too. The Finns have known this for centuries. Over 90 percent of the population in Finland are regular sauna users, and there are about two million saunas for a population of 5.5 million. That’s some serious sauna love.

Here’s why they’re hooked:

🔥 Cardiovascular boost – Frequent sauna use can cut the risk of heart disease by up to 63%. Think of it as a workout for your heart – without lifting a finger.
🔥 Better circulation & recovery – the heat gets your blood flowing, which helps muscles recover faster and reduces inflammation.
🔥 Natural detox – deep sweating flushes out toxins and impurities. Basically, your skin will thank you.

And the mind?
🧘‍♀️ Calm, cool, Collected – saunas lower stress hormones and release feel-good endorphins, giving you that zen-like state of mind.
😴 Sleep Like a Baby – the post-sauna cooldown helps promote deeper, more restful sleep.

So, if you’re up for swapping frostbite for a hot, steamy adventure, Seaside Sauna Haus is calling your name. Trust us, you won’t regret it.
