Step back in time with Hong Kong's City in Time campaign

First launched in 2020, Hong Kong’s City in Time campaign transports visitors into the historical panoramas pieced together from heritage photos or illustrations by local artists. These panoramas tell the unique stories of Hong Kong’s iconic monuments and historical buildings, bringing the past back to life through augmented reality.

The campaign started in the following locations: Central & The Peak, Yau Ma Tei, Jordan & Tsim Sha Tsui and Shum Shui Po and has now officially launched the second phase. Last month, the tourism Commission launched the campaign in Lei Yue Mun and upgraded the campaign in the initial locations with new movie elements and app features.

Visitors simply use their phones with the City in Time app to step into Hong Kong’s rich history, comparing it to the modern-day metropolis that surrounds them. The project is set to be extended to both Tai Hang and Kowloon City in later stages of the campaign.
